Snorkel AI Raises $350M as Valuation Hits $3.5B
Synopsis
Snorkel AI has raised $350 million at a $3.5 billion valuation as AI labs increasingly demand complex data to train and evaluate advanced models.
Key Highlights
- Snorkel AI has raised $350 million in fresh funding at a $3.5 billion valuation.
- It has increased in valuation by nearly 3 times since $1.3 billion in May of 2025.
- The annualised revenue run-rate of the company has surged to over $350 million from around $20 million a year ago.
- Snorkel is experiencing increasing interest in sophisticated data for training and testing of advanced AI models
- The additional funding will allow for hiring, enterprise and government operations, data types, as well as AI model assessment.
Snorkel AI, an AI data company, has raised $359 million in fresh funding, bringing its valuation to $3.5 billion. The funding round was led by S32 and Insight Partners. The new value of the company is nearly triple the $1.3 billion value Snorkel had when it raised $100 million in May 2025.
Second Quarter Revenue Surged
As the range of AI companies seeking ever more sophisticated data to train increasingly adept models expands, Snorkel has paced right along.
Snorkel, founded in 2019 by Stanford AI lab researchers Previously marketed software but transitioned to offering fully finished datasets and reinforcement-learning environments that customers can consume right away.
The Evolution: From Simple Labelling to Complex AI Training
As AI developers progress from simple data labelling, the company is noticing a shift in demand. As systems become increasingly capable, AI labs require more challenging and specialised data to train and test them.
Snorkel refers to its “agentic data development platform” where human experts are combined with thousands of specialised AI models and agents. While many quality-checking tasks are handled by AI, humans are still creating scenarios, tasks and grading rules.
It employs tens of thousands of specialists across various fields. Instead of charging customers to perform the grunt work with human labour, Snorkel sells them data products from this production system.
Snorkel Says You Still Need Humans In The Loop
As AI systems get better, CEO Alex Ratner said human involvement will still be critical. But he explained human input on its own will not suffice to keep up with how fast developments in AI training are becoming more complicated. Thus, Snorkel mixes human knowledge with synthetic data and automation.
The firm is partnering with top frontier AI laboratories, major cloud companies, enterprises and the US federal government. Currently, one of the largest demand verticals is coding data.
New Funding to Support Expansion
Snorkel intends to put the new capital towards increasing its research and engineering headcount as well as expanding in enterprise and government sectors.
The company also intends to assist third-party AI replica evaluations and penetrate new businesses and information classes. Snorkel said that though it is centred around growth, it expects to deliver profits this year.
The company is working in an emerging market, and investors are paying attention to the AI data market. The same demand has been seen with other companies in the space; Mercor and Surge AI have raised large amounts from investors too.
Andy Harrison, partner at S32 who co-led the funding round with Hall Capital Partners and Morgan Stanley said that as AI developers build more capable models data is becoming increasingly niche and scarce.
What Does This Mean for Australian businesses and business owners
As AI companies build ever larger models, high-quality data is even more critical. Snorkel's AI story illustrates that, for Australian businesses building AI products, additional layers of defence are becoming more important in terms of data quality, specialist expertise and testing as part of the AI development process.
It also signals opportunities for firms with specialist expertise, such as in coding, law and medicine. The need for more complex training and evaluation of AI systems makes companies that have proficiency and higher-quality data potentially more essential players in the broader AI landscape.
