Snap launches workplace tools for Specs
Snap is trying to pull businesses in with its Specs augmented-reality glasses, through deals with Salesforce, Nvidia and Amazon Web Services. They envision Specs as an item meant to be worn in environments where employees may need hands-free access to information.
They were revealed in June and cost $2,195. Snap is focused on places like factory floors, retail stores and field service operations where the employees aren’t likely to spend their whole days sitting behind a computer.
Salesforce AI Comes to Specs
Specs will also have Salesforce bringing its Agentforce AI platform on board. It will enable employees to use the glasses to check company data and automate jobs.
The AI underpinning Specs, which helps a worker see their physical environment through the glasses and look up related company details, will come from Nvidia. An AI assistant from Amazon Web Services will also be available which workers can use their voice to command for tasks like checking product availability.
Snap: A New Player in the Streaming Game
It announced plans to roll out a smart glasses version of its Spectacles with augmented-reality and AI-enabled optoelectronic devices next year, a market that many tech companies have sunk substantial amounts of money into over the last four years. Apple faced a tough road in taking its Vision Pro headset into the mainstream, with Meta being one of the heavyweights in the category.
Additionally, Snap has unveiled Specs Intelligence AI, too. The financial terms of its deals with Salesforce, Nvidia, AWS and other tech partners Trifork and Hololight were not disclosed.
Specs Going Live In Three Markets
Snap says it hopes to begin shipping Specs in the US, UK and France later this fall. Coming to the specs, a dedicated glasses’ charging case will be available (sold separately), for connectivity it will support cellular through telecom partners like Verizon in the US, Orange in France and BT Group’s EE in the UK.
The company is trying to position Specs, which will be powered by Microsoft’s Windows Mobile and use augmented-reality glasses to deliver business information and AI tools directly to employees in a work environment as an enterprise device.
Implications for Australian Entrepreneurs and Businesses
Snap’s announcement demonstrates the evolution of AR glasses as practical work tools for Australian businesses and entrepreneurs, not only entertainment devices. Hands-free access to company information and voice-based tools can help businesses in sectors like retail, manufacturing & field services.
Similarly, it illustrates how AI firms and software vendors are collaborating to integrate business tools into new forms of hardware systems. Australian businesses could soon have more options for integrating AI into daily tasks at work with new products like Specs.
