Anthropic Targets SpaceX-Sized IPO as Claude Maker Prepares for Public Debut
Synopsis
The AI company is running the numbers for a potential IPO that could match or exceed SpaceX’s record $86.2 billion offering, with a public filing possible by the end of August, people familiar with the matter said.
Anthropic is preparing for what could become the largest IPO in history with the artificial intelligence company aiming to match or even surpass SpaceX's record-setting market debut.
The Claude chatbot developer is expected to publicly file for its IPO as early as the end of this month.
While discussions are still ongoing and details may change, the move underscores how rapidly AI companies are reshaping global technology markets and attracting unprecedented investor interest.
IPO Plans Gather Pace Amid AI Surge
Anthropic is reportedly working with Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan Chase on the proposed listing. The company is also considering a dual-class share structure that would give CEO Dario Amodei and fellow co-founders greater voting control after the public offering.
If successful, the listing would eclipse SpaceX's record-breaking IPO and could make 2026 the biggest year ever for US public offerings. Bloomberg data shows that companies have already raised more than $160 billion through IPOs this year, approaching the all-time annual record.
Anthropic has also confidentially filed for its public debut ahead of rival OpenAI which is reportedly targeting a stock market listing in 2027.
Revenue Jumps but AI Expansion Remains Expensive
Investor enthusiasm has been driven by Anthropic's explosive business growth. Preliminary second-quarter revenue exceeded $11.5 billion compared with $787 million a year earlier. Its annualised revenue run rate also climbed to $65 billion by the end of July.
Despite the strong top-line growth, profitability remains a challenge. The company posted a net loss of nearly $42 billion in 2025 which reflects the enormous costs of building increasingly powerful AI systems.
Training advanced AI models requires vast computing infrastructure. Anthropic has already committed to multi-year agreements worth tens of billions of dollars for data centre capacity including a major computing deal with SpaceX.
The company is also expected to finalise a revolving credit facility exceeding its initial $10 billion target, providing additional funding to support future AI development and infrastructure investments.
