Synopsis

Perenti has secured a $275 million contract for underground mining services at Barrick's Fourmile gold project in Nevada. The award, won through Barminco, strengthens the company's North American project pipeline and places it at one of the most closely watched gold development projects in the United States.

Australian mining services company Perenti has bagged around $275 million contract for underground development works for the Fourmile gold project in Nevada, US, adding yet another long-term project to its expanding portfolio in North America.

The contract awarded to Perenti’s underground mining arm Barminco is for underground mine development and production services, and is scheduled to start in financial year 2027.

The Fourmile gold project in Nevada, owned by Barrick, lies in the US’s most prolific gold mining region.

Nevada consolidates role in gold mining

A contract to Perenti positions the mining services company at a project in Nevada, the largest gold producing state of the United States, contributing more than 70% of gold production.

The US Geological Survey reported in 2022 Nevada as being one of the most productive regions for gold in the world. Fourmile lies close to operating facilities of Nevada Gold Mines, a joint venture in which Barrick and Newmont are equal partners, and in recent times, Barrick has ramped up activity on Fourmile as a high-value growth project.

Nevada continues to be an appealing location for Australian contractors on the back of a reliable permitting environment, established workforce and the prevalence of large gold mining projects.

North America increasingly crucial as revenue contributor

This latest contract also increases the pipeline of work in North America for Perenti, which has used Barminco to extend its underground capabilities in the region.

As at the end of December 2025, Perenti had $5.8 billion in contracted work in hand, with a further $18.6 billion in an opportunity pipeline, having previously identified the region, alongside Australia and Africa – as a core market for future contracts.

Barminco currently works on underground mining projects throughout Australia, Canada, the United States and multiple African countries across gold, copper and other metal production areas.

Contract award follows strong result

Perenti has announced the Fourmile contract following a robust financial performance for the half-year ending 31 December 2025.

The company posted a total revenue of $1.73 billion, underlying EBIT(A) of $160.1 million and underlying net profit after tax (NPAT) of $91.8 million for the period.

The Fourmile contract is expected to bolster Perenti’s revenues from North America once operations kick-off in FY27.
