Synopsis

Apple is cutting more than 200 jobs across its Siri, Vision Pro and software teams as it shifts focus toward AI and new devices.

Apple has laid off more than 200 workers in Siri, Vision Pro and AI software development, as part of ongoing restructuring and a push towards AI and new devices.

Reportedly, 100 jobs in the Vision Pro organisation and an additional 100 in software and Siri, were lost.

New vacancies will also be created within the company as a result of the restructuring, as Apple noted in its official statement.

Chapter one

Siri Team Reshaped as AI Work Expands

Apple’s hardship notices include positions in the Intelligent Systems Experience team, which develops AI for Apple products.

The Siri organisation is undergoing restructuring as Apple transitions to a new AI-driven Siri, with changes impacting a range of roles and those affected can apply for other positions within the company.

Apple announced the new Siri artificial intelligence at its WWDC26 conference in June, and, in its most recent quarterly earnings call, Siri became one of the software updates highlighted by Apple.

Chapter two

Vision Pro Gaming and Video Teams Cut

The 100 job losses at Apple are projected to occur in the Vision Pro organisation, with the company’s gaming team being cut back significantly and the immersive video team being eliminated.

Apple released the Vision Pro in February 2024, and the company is set to continue its support for the headset and visionOS.

Restructuring is taking place as Apple reduces its emphasis on gaming while also cutting back on its own immersive video production.

The changes come as a result of a challenging year for the smartphone industry as a whole, with IDG’s Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker indicating that 2026 is likely to see the biggest drop in smartphone sales, with shipments expected to total 1.09 billion units, down 13.9% year-over-year.

Chapter three

Apple Revenue Reaches $109.4 Billion

Apple has been able to record revenues of $109.4 billion for the third fiscal quarter, an increase.

iPhone sales generated 54.25 billion, up 21.7%, while Mac revenue rose 28.7% to10.35 billion and the company’s services revenue, according to both Apple’s data and Reuters, climbed by 12.1% to $30.74 billion.

According to the most recent information provided by the company, there are over 150,000 employees working for Apple, and the majority of the reductions have been made in particular departments or teams rather than company-wide and represent a small fraction of total personnel.
