Synopsis

President Donald Trump bought between $15,001 and $50,000 of Elon Musk’s SpaceX on June 23, days after the company’s blockbuster IPO, giving the president a personal stake in a major US government contractor.

Shares of SpaceX, which were purchased by President Trump, were added to his investments, with the value of the deal at the time of the purchase on June 23, between $15,001 and $50,000, according to a public financial disclosure.

The disclosure was signed on August 12 and published on August 22. The sale of Trump’s SpaceX shares was one of over 1,000 trades of a stock reported in June, but the size of the president’s trade was not disclosed because forms for such transactions only specify a range of the value of the deal.

The sale came 11 days after the biggest initial public offering (IPO) in the U.S. since the company’s own sale. The firm reported selling 555.56 million shares for $135 each, which created a valuation of $1.77 trillion, and generated $75 billion in sales.

In addition, underwriters bought additional shares, thus increasing the proceeds from the offering by $85.7 billion. The company announced its listing on the 12th June, attracting many investors, and the shares jumped 19% on the first day.

The latest issue of SpaceX stock purchase by Trump places a financial stake in the president’s hands in one of the critical government contractors, where his former adviser Elon Musk retains a controlling interest. The president’s disclosure of his assets is part of broader efforts by the Trump administration to promote commercial space launches from the United States, where SpaceX is one of the few domestic players, according to Reuters.

The White House spokesman said that Trump’s wealth is managed by outsiders who make decisions based on standard indexes, such as the Schwab 1000, and that he has no control over his investments or the timing of the sales.

The latest results set the Financial Context for the transaction, as it is the first quarterly filing of his shares as the president and since the company’s listing.

In addition, in August, Reuters reported that profits at SpaceX had soared due to increased revenues from satellites and artificial intelligence.

The deal also marks the growing interest in space and satellite communication and technology investment in Australia’s business environment. One of the world’s most significant private companies was listed in the stock market. Its business includes launching spacecraft, providing satellite connectivity, and government contracts.

The White House noted that the Trump SpaceX deal was one of the most minor transactions for the president in June by volume.
