Synopsis

The crypto exchange reported another quarterly loss as weaker trading activity weighed on revenue amid a prolonged market slowdown.

Coinbase registers 3rd consecutive quarterly loss as falling volumes hurt revenue Crypto-related trading and weaker digital asset markets resulted in a revenue decline for the country's publicly-traded cryptocurrency exchange in the second quarter.

The loss marks an unsettling start to the year for Coinbase, as reduced trading volumes gnawed away at its core business.

Coinbase's net loss for the quarter ended on June 30, 2026, came in at $359.5 million, or $1.36 diluted per share, compared to a net profit of $1.43 billion, or $5.14 diluted per share in the same period the previous year.

Overall revenue for the quarter fell a dismal 19% year over year to just $1.22 billion, missing analyst estimates.

Trading revenue weakens as market activity slows

As the market flattened, trading volume began to lose strength. Coinbase continued to generate the bulk of its income from its transaction business, yet it indicated decreased customer activity in the period.

The trading segment booked $599 million, a 21% decline sequentially, while subscription and services revenue booked $555.1 million, a 12.2% loss. These figures continue a pattern of poor performance from Coinbase.

First quarter results included a net loss of $394.1 million on $1.43 billion in revenue, the third quarter in a row it was in the red. Coin dropped by a few percent after market close following the release of the report.

Chapter two

Global crypto markets remain under pressure

The broader cryptocurrency market cooled off throughout the period, recording 12.6% year-over-year losses to approximately $2.1 trillion on CoinGeckoQ2 2026 Crypto Industry Report. Spot trading volume across the ten largest centralized exchanges slumped 27.9% to $1.95 trillion and averaged a decline of 20.9% daily from the previous quarter.

A general downbeat feeling in the markets is now evident Coinbase announced the Crypto Market sentiment is down.

Investors trading activity across the US, Canada, the UK, the EU, Singapore, Japan, South Korea and UAE decreased in the region as digital asset prices declined. The overall activity across US investors was reduced and was affected by uncertainty about US interest rates and ongoing outflows from US digital assets.

The company also highlighted several additional points Coinbase is not backing down from pushing forward within the regulatory process to get clarity in regard to digital asset rulemaking, whilst seeking diversification across services like stablecoin infrastructure and subscriptions.

Coinbase was founded in 2012 and aims to become the most secure, compliant and user friendly public cryptocurrency trading exchange available in over 100 countries, according to its mission statement.
