Oz Hair & Beauty Buys Beauty Works in Expansion Push
Synopsis
The acquisition strengthens Oz Hair & Beauty's national presence, bringing Beauty Works' Melbourne stores and online business into its portfolio.
Oz Hair & Beauty buys out the last 30 outlets of Beauty Works, bringing up the total number of outlets to 34 throughout the whole of Australia, including Beauty Works' Melbourne Central store, online operation, and expertise in hair extensions. Terms of the deal have not been made public.
The deal is expected to help build up the strength of the brand in the beauty retail market in Australia, which will be achieved through faster growth both on its e-commerce platform and in physical stores. In addition, Beauty Works will still form a part of the company, providing professional hair extensions, training, and salon relationships to the retail division of Oz Hair & Beauty.
The Store Network keeps on growing
The purchase is indicative of the company's drive to establish a National Retail business, integrating products with professional beauty services, said Chief executive Anthony Nappa. He added that Beauty Works adds “recognized expertise in hair extensions” to the retailer's current product line.
Oz Hair & Beauty now has 34 stores across the country, and will add a further nine to its footprint by the end of this year, in the major metro and regional markets. The acquisition also brings in Beauty Works' existing e-commerce business and Melbourne Central store, helping to expand the business's footprint in Victoria.
Retail Sector Shifts Towards Omnichannel Growth
The acquisition represents the most recent move in the Australian beauty sector as a way of continuing with brick and mortar store investments but still offering products online. As per IBISWorld, the Hairdressing and Beauty Services industry will register a turnover of A$8.6 billion in revenue in 2025-26 due to sustained consumer interest in beauty services and personal care.
As per Euromonitor International, Australia represents the largest beauty and personal care market in Australasia and premium beauty, haircare, and professional services are doing exceedingly well in the beauty market. This also applies to the US and elsewhere in Europe as big beauty brands are visible on the streets and they even offer beauty services too.
Oz Hair & Beauty is a private company and does not need to report any financial information. The acquisition of the Beauty Works brand is an integral part of the retailer's expansion strategy amidst rising competition from other beauty retailers in Australia.
