Synopsis

The extension will see Perenti continue providing surface mining services at AngloGold Ashanti's Iduapriem operation, with a fleet sale to follow.

Perenti, a mining services company based in Australia, has extended its contract with AngloGold Ashanti in Ghana for a further $95 million, continuing to provide surface mining services at the Iduapriem gold mine located in the west of the country.

As part of a new operating contract, the contract also involves the sale of the Perenti mining fleet to the mine owner on the site.

The contract extension allows mining operations to continue on the equipment until it is handed over to AngloGold Ashanti, the company said. Under the terms of the agreement, mining services would continue to be delivered by Perenti.

Chapter one

Contract Extends Long-Running Ghana Operations

The extension of the Perenti Ghana contract further supports its expansion into West Africa, with operations established over more than 20 years through its African Mining Services (AMS) business. Ghana is one of Perenti's largest overseas markets and continues to play a vital role in its contract mining operations.

Ghana is the largest producer of gold in Africa with South Africa, Mali and Burkina Faso following behind it, according to World Gold Council and U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) data. This has made it the top export and an integral component of government revenues, which fuels mining growth in the country.

Chapter two

Mining Services Continue to Lead Revenue

The Perenti Ghana contract extension comes in the wake of recent financial reports which saw revenue for FY2025 recorded at A$3.49 billion; underlying EBITA of A$333 million; underlying net profit after tax at A$178 million and free cash flow of A$286 million.

According to Perenti's FY25 Annual Report, the mining contract division was the largest operating sector of the business, accounting for over 72% of total group revenue.

Perenti, a global mining services company based in Australia, has operations in Australia, Ghana, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Mali, Tanzania, Canada and the United States; and offers mining, drilling and mining support services to the world's resources sector.

Chapter three

Fleet Sale Supports Revised Operating Model

Not only the sale of the fleet but the transfer of ownership for the mining equipment to AngloGold Ashanti will occur while operational services continue at the Iduapriem site to be provided by Perenti.

The contract is a type of arrangement that has become prevalent across the mining sector, whereby the mine owner purchases the operational fleet while specialist contractors continue to manage mining activities through long-term service agreements.

Demand for contract mining continues to hold up as producers focus their investments on premier jurisdictions and operational efficiency, as per S&P Global Market Intelligence.
