Australian job vacancies fell by 2.1% in May quarter, making it the first quarterly decline for the first time since the middle of 2025, as per the data released on Thursday by Australia’s Bureau of Statistics.

According to ABS, the decrease follows a 2.4% gain in the previous quarter. Also, the vacancies were down from 329,500.

Sector-Wise Declines

Private sector job vacancies fell by a further 1.4%, and public sector vacancies were down 7.9%. Vacancies fell across most industries in the period.

The sector that experienced the biggest decline was financial and insurance services, with job vacancies falling 21.4%. The number of job vacancies in accommodation and food services, recorded a decline at 16.1%.
