NSW To Pass Emergency Gun Laws After Bondi Massacre

The Australian state of New South Wales is acting swiftly. The leader of the state claims that politicians will return to work next week. They will then introduce new laws regarding guns and protesting. This occurs only a short time after a horrific shooting attack took place during a Jewish event at Bondi Beach. This attack is Australia’s worst mass shooting in the last thirty years.

Emergency Laws to Alter Firearm Regulations

This was announced by the state premier, Chris Minns, in a news conference. He‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ mentioned that parliament is going back to work on the 22nd of December. They will talk about the urgent reforms first in the meeting that is going to take place. There are a few changes for instance limitation of the guns that can be owned by one person, as well as some restrictions on ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌shotguns.

Laws about protests will also be studied by the government. They intend to make it even more difficult for large protests to occur in the streets after a terror event. “It is a huge responsibility to try and bring everyone together. It is what the community needs, a summer of peace, not discord,” said the premier.

This is quick action taken following public outrage. People have been asking how the shooters obtained their guns. One of the shooters possessed a legal gun license. This shooter owned many guns that were registered. The new laws seek to fill the loopholes that have rendered the above possible.

Funerals Underway as Probe Continues

On Wednesday, funerals began. They were of the victims who belonged to the Jewish community. Among those who passed away is Rabbi Eli Schlanger. He is a dad of five. He is also a well-known community leader. He worked with inmates and those who were in need.

The‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ Australian Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, is the one who is next to suffer. The critics are accusing his administration of inaction to the rising antisemitism. He has promised to be one of the leaders of the Jewish community fighting against the Jewish hatred. The Government and the intelligence agencies of the State are a step away from being questioned how the old man with the gun got hold of such powerful ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌rifles.

The other shooter who lived is the son who was twenty-four years old. He had been in a coma and had woken up. The police will wait for his medicine to wear off before they can question him. He will soon face charges.

Heroes and the Long Road to Recovery

One‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ man is being praised all over the world as a hero. That man is Ahmed al-Ahmed. He confronted a terrorist and took his gun. He, however, was fired upon. He will be having another operation the next day. His family back home in Syria is extremely happy with ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌him.

Another person who was shot was young policeman Jack Hibbert. He was only four months into his service when he was shot. His relatives reported that he lost vision in one eye. His relatives also reported that he is facing a tough time in his process of recovery.

There are still twenty-two people in hospitals in Sydney. The victims included a Holocaust survivor and a ten-year-old girl. On Bondi Beach, swimmers observed a minute of silence. “Our community is uniting to cope with their sadness,” one local man said.
