First-term MP Jess Wilson has inked a new history by becoming the first woman to lead the Victorian Coalition, as she ousted Brad Battin.
Earlier on Tuesday morning, Victorian Liberal MPs voted in Wilson’s favour to lead the party at the next state election, replacing Battin.

Who Is Jess Wilson?
Wilson is among the new Liberal MPs who were elected as the member for Kew at the 2022 state election after defeating five contenders and replacing former frontbencher Tim Smith.
Before contestin the polls, Wilson had worked for accounting firm KPMG and served as an adviser for former federal MP for Kooyong, Josh Frydenberg.
She originally belongs to Mont Albert in Melbourne's inner-east. Her father, Ron Wilson, had served as a member for Bennettswood from 1999 until its abolition in 2002.
In her short political stint, she has overseen seven different portfolios. She held a position as shadow treasurer recently.
What Does She Promise?
Speaking after the victory, Wilson stated her priorities, saying she aims to bring the budget under control, end the crime crisis, increase access to healthcare, and make home ownership more accessible for all Victorians.
She also promised to repeal the Victorian Treaty and bring down power prices, provided the Coalition secured power.
Speaking to the media, she said, "I will work every day for Victorians to make sure at the next election they have a clear and credible alternative to vote for that gives them hope for the future of Victoria."
