Synopsis

The explorer has completed a first-pass drilling campaign after identifying a mismatch between historical production figures and the volume of material removed from the site.

Chapter one

Key Highlights

  • King river Resources has completed its first-pass drill campaign at Mindoolah Gold Project ahead of schedule.
  • It completed 169 reverse circulation (RC) holes for a total of 1,583 metres.
  • An analysis found approximately 746,000 tonnes of stockpiles and waste dumps at the site.
  • First assay results are anticipated in late July.
  • The drill rig has mobilised to Phase 2 targeting mineralisation below the historic mine workings.

King River Resources has finished its first-pass exploration program earlier than planned at the historically significant Mindoolah Gold Project located near Cue in Western Australia’s famed Murchison region, which included drilling 1,583 metres across 169 reverse circulation (RC) holes on historic waste dumps and stockpiles.

It comes after a review of the project in May, when a drone LiDAR survey and volumetric analysis uncovered a major disparity between historical production records and volumes generated from old pits.

The review estimated surface stockpiles and waste dumps at the project of about 746,000 tonnes, around 340,000 tonnes higher than had formerly been reported. Drilling was completed ahead of surface dumps and stockpiles at the historically defined gold workings over the Excelsior, Cundy and Mindoolah Main Reef to establish grade distribution, variability and baseline grades.

Next Phase Aims at Historic Gold Structures

Having completed stockpile drilling, King River this week mobilised its RC and diamond drill rig for the second phase of exploration below old historic mine sites. The part two of the program will target shallow extensions and reconnaissance targets over open pits remediated through the 1980s, plus underground workings originating from as far back as the early 20th century.

High priority targets include the Excelsior, Cundy, Bertram’s and Mindoolah Main Reef mining zones. It hopes to establish gold lode continuity, validate the previous drilling and take the guesswork out of its modelling of structural corridors directing gold mineralisation.

Continued geological mapping has targeted structural and lithological targets, including an anticline at Cundy with folded banded iron formations, chert horizons and repeated quartz veins. King River has now finished the data collection for a 9.5 square kilometre low-altitude aeromagnetic survey, with processed results anticipated next week to be included in drill targeting going forward.

The first batches of its drill samples have already been sent to a lab for analysis, and some early assay results could start to arrive in late July.
