Bitcoin Rebounds Above $70,000 After $60K Scare

Synopsis

Bitcoin investors are waking up to some welcome news this morning after the world’s biggest cryptocurrency staged a strong recovery. A day after a hammering sell-off almost took Bitcoin down to $60,000 before it rebounded, the crypto spiked more than 11% as of around the time this email was sent to trade back above $71,000. The bounce was part of a broader market “win,” with the Dow Jones soaring more than 900 points and tech giants like Nvidia skidding back up from a brutal week. Though the “extreme fear” that seized the market on Thursday has begun to dissipate, some analysts caution that this summer could bring another trial to digital assets.

NEW YORK – Bitcoin $BTC has jumped back over $70,000 on Friday February 6, 2026. This huge recovery comes after a “near-death experience” for the digital coin just one day ago, when it nearly crashed below $60,000 for only the first time since the 2024 U.S. elections.

Bitcoin was less than an inch away from touching a price well above $71,458 on Friday afternoon, having surged by 11% within less than 24 hours. The sudden rebound was spurred by a wave of “dip-buying”, in which investors race to buy an asset after its price has plunged. After all, because Bitcoin had lost 60-some per cent of its value from an October peak of $126,000, many investors just couldn’t resist something as cheap as $60,000. Is this the start of a thaw in the “Crypto Winter,” or merely an intermission during an even more epic crush?

Chapter one

A ‘Risk-On’ Friday for Wall Street

After the worst day for stocks since June 11 on Wednesday and a tech-led rebound on Thursday, stocks rose today, lifting the S.&P. 500 another 0.7%, its second straight triumph over its March high.

Bitcoin was not the only thing rebounding on Friday. There was a massive rush of optimism across the entire stock market that soothed investors’ nerves following a week of extreme volatility.

• The Dow Jones: The blue-chip index rallied 918 points, or 1.9%, surpassing the historic 50,000 level for the first time.

• Tech Giants Bounce Back: The A.I. leader Nvidia surged 6% and Microsoft finished the day up 1 per cent. That was a huge relief for the tech sector, which had taken a beating earlier in the week amid fears that A.I. was actually harming traditional software companies.

Investors are “rotating” back into riskier assets, experts say, because they believe the recent panic went too far. Although companies like Amazon and Alphabet are still taking a hit (their $200 billion spending plans were always going to see some losses), the mood on Wall Street has switched from “extreme fear” to “cautious hope.”

Chapter two

Why the $70,000 Level Matters

For Bitcoin traders, $70,000 is more than a figure, it’s a “psychological line in the sand.” When it remains above this level, investors have confidence that the long-term trend is still higher. On Thursday, when the price fell below $70,000, it set off a huge so-called “liquidation”, more than $2 billion in trades that were automatically sold off and fed the crash.

The surge back above this line on Friday is a sign that the “bulls” (who think the price will go up) are still in charge, for now. But the market remains very fragile. Bitcoin is 45% below its all-time high still, and has recently found itself trading below its one-year average price for the first time since early 2022.

Could the Price Fall Again?

Despite the enthusiasm, some market analysts are cautioning against getting too comfortable. The Bitcoin Research Group 10X Research, however, argues that although we could have a minor “counter-trend” rally currently, the gloom could see us drop to $50,000 and even lower before summer ends.

They say the “hype” that formerly animated Bitcoin has given way to a cash flow-driven market. Should institutional demand (for Bitcoin ETFs) continue to wane, this could result in additional selling pressure on the price. For the immediate moment, the “crypto faithful” are singing hallelujahs over a big victory, but it appears that journey back to $100,000 will be a long and winding road.

Chapter four

Key Highlights

  • Bitcoin rebounded to $71,458 on Friday having plunged close to a two-year low of $60,000.
  • The Dow Jones surpassed 50,000 in its first closing at a record level as investors rekindled their appetite for tech stocks and industrial companies.
  • Analysts caution that it’s not out of the question for the price to still fall to $50,000 at some time later this year, if demand doesn’t recover.
