EOX Brings Autonomous Electric Tractors to Western Australia
Synopsis
Dutch agricultural technology company EOX is bringing its autonomous electric tractors to Western Australia, targeting growing demand for sustainable and labour-saving farming equipment.
Dutch agritech company EOX makes its Australian debut with a pilot program in Western Australia, in which it plans to bring its electric tractor and autonomous work robot. EOX is introducing their heavy-duty tractor called the EOX Pioneer with horsepower from 175 to 200hp.
The evaluation has already helped identify the potential applications of EOX technology for Australian farmers, said the CEO.
EOX pilot to demonstrate electric, hydrogen, and autonomous machinery. EOX will showcase the EOX Pioneer, a heavy-duty tractor with a horsepower range from 175 to 200hp.
Pilot introduces electric, hydrogen and autonomous technology
The battery-electric version comes equipped with a 150kWh battery and is available with an onboard charger; whereas, the hydrogen version contains a 50kWh battery and fuel cell, a gas tank with 20kg of fuel, and also includes an onboard battery that powers the machine while the fuel cell isn't operational.
The heavy-duty tractors are designed with a four-wheel steering to maximize manoeuvrability, and wheel hub motors provide individual control for each wheel.
The modular tractors can also be upgraded to keep them competitive on the field for about 20,000 hours.
EOX will also feature its autonomous agricultural work robot, the Frontier, which will be demonstrating ground-care field operations using sensors and an artificial intelligence system, without a human operator. EOX was previously known as H2Trac and was founded in 2018.
The company specializes in manufacturing autonomous, hydrogen-fueled, and battery-electric agricultural equipment, with an emphasis on reducing emissions. Its machinery is engineered to minimize soil compaction by leveraging adaptive axle widths for controlled traffic farming, maintaining soil structure, and boosting farm productivity.
Automation gains momentum across agriculture
Automation in farming In agriculture, automation is no longer just a trending topic but has already been implemented across many farms, especially considering the rising prices for fuel and electricity.
Automation is becoming more prevalent both in developed and developing nations due to the shortage of available labour, and the growing demand for better efficiency in farms. Additionally, the utilisation of hydrogen-powered machinery is also gaining significant attention from different sectors across the world.
For instance, The IEA Global Hydrogen Review 2024 reveals that a significant percentage of announced low-emission hydrogen projects and investments are located in North America and Australia, as well as parts of Europe and China.
