President Trump Responds

Donald Trump downplayed the recent Signal group message leak on Tuesday, calling it “the only glitch in two months.”

He defended National Security Advisor of the United States, Michael Waltz, saying that he had learned his lesson. Trump claims the members of the group message on Signal did not share any classified information.

The Backstory Behind the Signal Message Leak

The story originally broke when Jerry Goldberg, editor in chief of The Atlantic, was added to the chat on March 11th. When questioned about how Goldberg got added, he said, “It was one of Michael’s people on the phone. A staffer had his number on there.”

Members present in the Signal group included figures such as Waltz, Marco Rubio, Pete Hegseth, and Tulsi Gabbard.

Gabbard also claimed that no one in the group shared classified material.

White House and Politicians React

President Donald Trump told NBC News that Goldberg’s inclusion in the group chat had no impact on the military operation.

A White House statement released on Tuesday asserts that the media coverage of the Signal message leak is an attempt to distract from the successful actions taken by the Trump administration to keep Americans safe.

Most republicans have defended Waltz, but a few have sided with Democrats in condemning the Signal message leak. Don Bacon, a Republican congressman from Nebraska, called it a “gross error.”

Bacon also claimed that Russia and China are likely monitoring the phones involved in the leak. Nick Lalota, a Republican congressman from New York, called it “totally sloppy.”

In response to an interview that MSNBC did with Pete Hegseth, he said, “I haven’t seen this kind of unserious behavior before.”

He criticized the secretary of defense’s response as a deflection. Goldberg stated that he shouldn’t have been involved in the Signal message group.
