Synopsis

The investment will accelerate the launch of the startup's zero-emissions heavy vehicle fleet and charging network across regional Australia.

New Energy Transport electric freight funding has now reached A$5 million, bringing new capital to grow the company's heavy electric trucking network and charging infrastructure throughout Australia.

The equity round was led by the Jekara Group and featured family offices and private investors. The transaction was supported by climate and investment advisory Pollination.

The funding will be invested in New Energy Transport's Rapid Deployment Plan, which will involve the roll-out of 20 battery-electric prime movers and six mobile ultra-fast chargers on freight corridors across New South Wales by the end of 2026.

It will also be used for fleet expansion, charging infrastructure, and commercial operations as the business continues to scale up its electric freight network across Australia.

The capital is being provided as the company transitions from being in the pilot phase to commercial operations. For New Energy Transport, it was earlier this month that its first Volvo FH Electric prime mover was delivered, and it is now in operation with its first customer, Unilever Australia, as the operator's base freight customer. The truck is carrying household items from Unilever's distribution centre in Ingleburn to customers in metropolitan Sydney.

The first truck delivered will be part of an 11-vehicle order for Volvo FH Electric vehicles to be delivered over the coming 12 months. It is also the first vehicle in its class that has been funded using a joint agreement between the Swedish transport company Volvo and financial services provider Volvo Financial Services and the Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC), which is set up to open up opportunities for financing battery electric heavy vehicles.

Chapter one

Company Builds National Electric Freight Network

New Energy Transport was established to create an international, dedicated ZE freight network of both battery-electric trucks and charging stations for long-distance transport.

In parallel with fleet growth, the company is continuing to advance its long-term initiatives for a Wilton Electric Truck Depot in NSW that has been identified as a project of national significance under the Australian Government's Investor Front Door programme.

As more vehicles enter service on the site it is anticipated that freight activities will be able to be undertaken through the major transport corridors in the east.

In 2026, the company also finished Australia's first commercial end-to-end battery electric freight delivery between Sydney and Canberra, utilising a battery electric prime mover. The demonstration was a part of the preparation for its wider commercialization.
