Reddit’s New AI Feature Turns Posts Into Short Videos
Synopsis
Reddit is testing an AI feature that transforms text posts and comments into narrated podcasts and short videos, offering users a new way to consume content.
Reddit AI video, the platform’s experiment of posts consumption, is officially available for limited testing.
The artificial voices read aloud selected posts and comments while displaying text on-screen. According to the rollout reports, the Reddit users will be able to experience the test on August 17, 2026.
The trial version covers a limited number of English language posts and communities. The new format is not meant to replace the original discussion; anyone can read along and reply to comments.
Reddit Tests Video and Audio Formats
Reddit experiment highlights a combination of narration and highlighting with accompanying text and video. The users can view the information as text or video or listen to it.
For instance, the eight-year-old post in the r/boardgames community was transformed into a three-minute video. It presented a narrative of the original discussion and some comments with the caption saying conversation with an AI voice.
Reddit is making a manual effort, rather than fully automating the process, to select suitable posts for the trial version. It is currently available on the website and will be accessible on the iOS and Android mobile applications.
Video Expansion Predates the AI Test
The Reddit AI video trial is part of the company’s larger push towards video technology. In June 2026, Reddit announced the launch of video comments as a global feature to allow users to upload or record video replies within specific, broad, and safe-for-work communities.
In July, the company revealed its plan to develop a feature by which the users could view or listen to the most popular discussions on Reddit. The method is currently under trial, with the August test being the first official run. Reddit's text comments will be combined with the narrated versions of them in either video or audio.
The tests are limited to commercial publishers in Australia and America to research how their content might be accessed more heavily in the future.
