Calmer Co Takes Kava Global With $25M Agreement
Synopsis
The Australian wellness company has locked in a $25 million global kava deal, supporting wider distribution and its next phase of international growth.
The Calmer Co $25 million kava deal will see the Australian group’s kava extract ingredients distributed by a multinational ingredients company in Australia, New Zealand, the United States, Canada, and the ASEAN region.
The ASX kava deal, announced on August 17, includes minimum purchase requirements of around A$25 million by the distributor during the first three years to maintain their exclusivity. Of that, approximately A$5.5 million is set to be purchased during the first year, with further deliveries planned for the second and third years.
Five Markets Covered
The Calmer Co kava supply contract covers the kava ingredients extracted using water and CO₂. The unnamed distributor belongs to a global ingredients group that markets botanical, nutritional, and plant-based raw materials to dietary, sports nutrition, and complementary medicine companies in over 60 countries.
The first agreement is set for three years, with two additional three-year extensions for the distribution deal, subject to purchase and payment terms. Under agreed carve-outs, the exclusive arrangement does not apply to existing wholesale ingredient customers.
The Calmer Co $25m kava deal follows the company’s recent Pacific supply deal, which sees the group buy monthly kava supplies from Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu. The indicative annual value of the contract equals approximately A$8.65 million.
The company also purchases kava from Fiji, which complements the new distribution deal and the Pacific supply arrangement.
US Sales Lead Revenue Mix
The Calmer Co $25m kava deal comes as the United States has become the company's largest revenue market. The total quarterly revenue was A$1.96 million, of which sales in the United States grew by 11% quarter-on-quarter to A$1.15 million, representing 59% of group revenue.
A$645,783 was the wholesale revenue, up 78% on a sequential basis or 33% of the company’s total revenue. Furthermore, the company’s wholesale sales were 99% from the US in the quarter, according to the ASX announcement.
The Calmer Co ASX announcement also noted that existing specialist partners in Australia and India will be used to fulfill the CO₂ extraction requirements for the volumes expected. Meanwhile, new capacity is set to be created in Fiji.
