Microsoft Chief Executive Officer Satya Nadella will visit Sydney in April 2026 to outline the company’s artificial intelligence plans and discuss Australia’s role in expanding AI adoption and infrastructure. The visit is part of Microsoft’s global AI Tour and will include an event in Sydney on April 23, where Nadella is expected to speak with business leaders, developers, and government representatives.

The Australian was the first to report the news and said that the visit would be his first since 2019. The move is as Microsoft keeps investing more in AI and cloud infrastructure in the country, including the plan that it announced earlier to invest approximately 5 billion dollars to create nine data centres. These facilities complement cloud services, which enable organisations to store information and use the software on the internet.

Microsoft has placed Australia among the major markets in terms of artificial intelligence development. According to the company data, Australia was the 11th largest in terms of generative AI applications during the second part of 2025, with 36.9 per cent of the working-age population adopting AI tools. Microsoft has also determined that the broader use of AI will contribute up to 115 billion every year to the Australian economy by the year 2030.

Commonwealth Bank, Telstra, Westpac, and Bank of Queensland are several large organisations in Australia that have begun to use the AI products of Microsoft. Westpac has launched Microsoft 365 Copilot, an AI assistant that assists employees in performing such activities as document writing and information analysis.

The visit of Nadella to Sydney is an extension of the work of Microsoft to popularise artificial intelligence technologies worldwide and build relationships with businesses and the state.
