WiseTech Appoints Raelene Murphy Chair as Richard White Steps Aside
Synopsis
The logistics software company has named Raelene Murphy independent chair following Richard White's resignation as executive chair.
Richard White resigns as WiseTech executive chair in major shake-up. Richard White, the co-founder and former chief executive officer of WiseTech Global, has resigned as executive chair in the latest governance revamp for one of Australia’s largest technology businesses.
The former executive will take up an executive director position, with chief innovation officer and product lead, Raelene Murphy, stepping into the role as an independent chair.
The move follows the public announcement of a number of improper conduct allegations against White in March. White maintained the allegations had affected the company. The issues concern him and his personal situation, not the business, a WiseTech spokesperson confirmed at the time.
Murphy Takes Independent Board Leadership
He was appointed as lead independent director to the board in April 2026 before moving to an independent director role six months prior. Independent chair to head the board for the first time as Mr White transitions to an executive director and product lead.
Ms Murphy, who was the lead independent director on the WiseTech board prior to today, said that while “many of the public issues focus on Richard and his personal circumstances, our Board’s experiences with him have been different and remain on-going. Our Board remains fully committed to maintaining best practice governance and continues to prioritise the needs of our customers, employees, and our long-term business execution,” she added.
The company also confirmed that it was renewing its search for an additional independent board member.
Governance Changes Continue
Leadership transitions continued as White stood down as CEO on August 30, 2024, a role that was assumed by Zubin Appoo six months ago, as White turned his focus to product innovation. The announcement on Tuesday has been embraced by investors, with the share price jumping up to 10.6% in early ASX trading.
