Synopsis

Google Drive users across Australia experienced widespread access and loading issues on Wednesday with Google confirming it was investigating the outage while engineers worked on a fix.

Google Drive experienced a widespread disruption on Wednesday, leaving many users in Australia unable to access files and slowing workplace operations.

The outage affected both the web version and the app with users reporting loading failures, login issues and "502" error messages.

The problems began around 10:45 am with reports rising sharply after 11:30 am.

By 1 pm, about 900 users had reported issues, although the number gradually declined later in the afternoon as service began recovering for some users.

Chapter one

Users Report Slow Loading and File Access Issues

According to user reports, the majority of issues were linked to the Google Drive website while others affected the mobile app and account logins. Several users said files took several minutes to load which disrupted normal work activities.

Some workplaces reported that multiple devices were affected simultaneously. Users shared complaints online and said they were unable to open documents or experienced unusually long loading times which made it difficult to continue day-to-day tasks.

Although conditions improved for some users during the afternoon, hundreds were still reporting problems at around 3:30 pm, indicating that the disruption had not been fully resolved.

Chapter two

Google Investigates the Disruption

Google acknowledged the incident through its Google Workspace status page and confirmed that it was aware of the issue affecting Drive users.

The company said its engineering team was investigating the root cause while working on a potential fix to restore normal service. It did not immediately provide an estimated timeline for complete recovery.

The outage highlights how heavily businesses and individuals rely on cloud based collaboration tools for storing and sharing files. Even brief service interruptions can delay projects, affect communication and reduce productivity particularly for organisations that depend on Google Workspace for daily operations.
