BrewDog, a Scottish craft beer company, has initiated a formal selling process and hired restructuring firm AlixPartners to facilitate the process, after a few years of loss-making.

The company has stated that it is considering investment options in a systematic process that may lead to the sale of the whole business or individual business segments. The advisers will evaluate the interest in brewing operations of BrewDog and its chain of bars and other resources. During the review, the company verified that its venues and production facilities are available and running normally.

In its last financial year, BrewDog registered losses of approximately £36.7 million and this indicates that the business is still under the continuous financial strain. The company claimed that the review is to provide them with more financial strength and stability in the long-term.

BrewDog was established in 2007 by James Watt and Martin Dickie in Scotland, and had expanded to be one of the largest independent craft brewers in the UK. It brews such beers as Punk IPA and Elvis Juice and it has dozens of bars in the UK and abroad as well as breweries in a number of countries.

James Watt resigned as the chief executive in 2024 but is also a significant shareholder. He is said to be thinking of taking part in the process of selling it.

The action is part of previous restructuring activities such as shutting down of some of its bars and abolishing some of its non-core operations on the way to its primary brewing business.

BrewDog did not comment any further since the sale process is still on.
