Australia Backs US-Iran Peace Agreement

After months of deadly conflict and stalled negotiations, the announcement of a US-Iran peace deal has been met with relief from Australia. President Donald Trump of the US and Pakistan's prime minister, whose country has been mediating negotiations, said the two sides reached a deal that also refers to Lebanon.

Strait of Hormuz Reopening Welcomed

In a joint statement, Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, and foreign minister Penny Wong welcomed to reopen the Strait of Hormuz for restore freedom of navigation,  They stated that restoring the route was not only key to relieving a drive on energy prices but also that it could stimulate economies in neighbouring nations, but added any full repair would take time.

Australia Calls for Lasting Peace

Albanese and Wong embraced the development but said it was not enough to achieve a full and lasting peace. They said Iran also needs to resolve longstanding concerns over its nuclear program and the security threat it poses additionally to international peace. The details released seem positive and the reopening of the strait of Hormud was a positive one, 

Oil Trade Set to Resume

Under normal circumstances, the Strait of Hormuz ships around a fifth of world oil but has been disrupted repeatedly during the conflict. The blockade made a number of countries including Australia turn to alternative sources of petrol, diesel and jet fuel to prevent running short.

Trump, announced the deal with Iran on social media, called the agreement complete, ordering that Strait of Hormuz be reopened and US military blockade removed, as per abc news.
