A horrid accident occurred in Kenya on Tuesday when a small tourist plane crashed in the woods. Everyone on board died. The plane had eight Hungarians, two Germans, and one Kenyan pilot on board.
The plane took off from Diani, a coastal beach resort town, early in the morning. The visitors had looked forward to viewing the Maasai Mara, where lions, elephants and other wildlife can be observed. But the plane never landed there. The plane crashed at half past eight in the morning in Kwale County.
When the rescue team arrived at the location, they observed there was smoke from the damaged plane. The accident was so severe that passengers’ luggage, clothes and personal items were scattered everywhere. Some of them were on the ground while others became lodged in tree branches. It was obvious no one could have survived.
Two Families Lost
Things worsened when Hungary’s Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto addressed media personnel. According to him, two entire families perished in the crash. There were two children among the victims as well. One more Hungarian individual was with these families. All the people from Hungary were acquaintances to one another.
Hungary’s leader, Viktor Orban, described how sad he felt after what had occurred. He wrote to the families informing them that the entire nation sympathized with them. Both of the German tourists were on vacation. Little is known about them yet as officials are still verifying who everyone was.
What Happens Next
The Kenyan government acted quickly. They sent a team of experts to investigate the wreckage of the plane and attempt to determine why it crashed. Was it an engine issue? Was the weather involved? Did something malfunction on the pilot’s controls? No one knows yet.
The airline service, Mombasa Air Safari, released a statement. They said they’re assisting the investigation team and will release information when they have it.
At the moment, authorities are doing their best to verify the definitive identity of every individual who perished. It takes time because bodies may be difficult to identify following such a terrible accident. When they’re certain, they will inform the families formally. The Hungarian and German embassies in Kenya are cooperating with this painful task. Numerous small aircraft take tourists on tour around Kenya daily. The accident has left the public questioning the safety of these flights.
