Intel Expands Chip Manufacturing

Intel’s stock is up almost threefold this year, but dropped more than 4% on Monday. It has outperformed AMD and Nvidia in the stock market

With the migration to AI agents, demand for central processing units has surged, which is now pushing demand above Intel’s manufacturing capabilities. In July, the company increased its capital spending outlook for 2026 to $20 billion from about $18 billion.

Intel announced earlier in the year that it had secured a major external customer which led to its decision last month to move forward with high-volume production of chips from its 14A manufacturing process in 2028.

It has landed a 14A customer called Tesla for its foundry business, etc. Enthusiasm for another big customer gained traction after U.S. President Donald Trump mentioned that Apple would also make some processors together with Intel, although actually neither company confirmed it.

Intel announced last month a €5 billion ($5.77 billion) investment to modernise and expand semiconductor facilities in Ireland The project accounts for over a quarter of its projected capital spending in 2026.

JPMorgan Securities, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and Citigroup Global Markets are the joint book-running managers.
