Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) is poised to launch a new range of AI hardware on Thursday, taking aim at Nvidia with its newest offerings for the booming data centre chip market. The company has set its sights on the AI inference market, which fuels workloads like chatbot queries.
AMD is expected to showcase its Helios server racks designed to compete against Nvidia’s rack systems. The company is also expected to officially launch its Venice central processing unit (CPU) for data centres.
Recent AI Partnerships
AMD said that the company plans to provide Anthropic with two gigawatts of its Instinct MI450 chips beginning in early 2027. The deal will also make an investment of up to US$5 billion into the AI company.
In October, AMD announced a multi-year agreement with OpenAI that could yield tens of billions in annual revenue and gives the ChatGPT maker a stake option up to approximately 10% of AMD.
