Alibaba Debuts Wan3.0 AI Video Model After Record $10.2B Fundraise

Alibaba announced its Wan3.0 AI video model on 24 August, following the announcement of an HK$80 billion ($10.2 billion Hong Kong share placement to fund AI development and infrastructure the previous day.
The model can generate videos up to 30 seconds long from documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and web pages.
The new Alibaba Wan3.0 AI video model has been in Public beta since 6 August and has already been used to create short dramas, films, commercials, travel vlogs, and music videos. It is now entering a market that is becoming increasingly important to marketers and content creators.
AI Spending Reshapes Alibaba’s Latest Results
Alibaba's recent AI video model comes after a significant increase in the tech giant's investment in AI. The company's net income fell by 75 percent to 10.54 billion yuan in the June quarter. By comparison, revenue climbed 8.6 percent year over year to 268.95 billion yuan.
Spending on capital increased by 75 percent to 67.68 billion yuan in the June quarter. At the same time, Alibaba's AI Cloud and Compute Services provided 45 percent of the revenue increase, reaching 48.44 billion yuan in the most recent fiscal year.
There is also a larger funding program for Alibaba's launch of the AI video model, Wan3.0. The 80 billion HK$ offering will fund the development and infrastructure of the AI division.
Alibaba has also announced 380 billion yuan in expenditures on AI and cloud infrastructure over the next three years.
US Leads Investment as China Expands AI Development
