Synopsis

The iPhone maker has released new Maps advertising policies, including a ban on home services businesses, as it prepares to roll out the platform.

The Uber Delivery Hero deal has reached an advanced stage, valued at approximately €12.5 billion (US$14.3 billion). Delivery Hero is in talks with Uber to be acquired, it confirmed, but warned there is no guarantee the discussions will culminate in a formal offer.

It is estimated that the proposed valuation of Delivery Hero is in the region of €41 per share, compared to Uber's previous indicative valuation of €33 per share in May. The deal would be one of the largest food delivery transactions in recent years in the world, and would also bolster Uber's global food delivery efforts.

Chapter one

Global Expansion Meets Local Relevance

The proposed Uber Delivery Hero acquisition would enable Uber to gain access to Delivery Hero's operations in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Latin America via its brands Talabat, HungerStation, foodpanda and Baemin.

The order-to-door company currently serves approximately 70 markets, but in recent years it has shrunk its global presence by shutting down markets, such as Australia.

The sale is also an important one for Australia. With the departure of Menulog from Australia's food delivery market in November 2025, Uber Eats consolidated its presence in the nation.

While the company's Australia growth was being closely monitored by industry and investors alike, the proliferation of DoorDash's service in the country is still being watched as the firm competes for the lion's share of the online food delivery market in the region.

Uber Eats, which now makes up around 54% of the online food delivery market in Australia, is being eyed intently by local businesses and investors as the company's local expansion is closely monitored, while DoorDash has also been gaining a foothold in the country.

Chapter two

Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) grew by 8.8% YoY on a like-for-like basis to the record €12.5 billion during the first quarter of 2026. The company held on to its full-year financial outlook as the segment revenue grew by 17.8% to €3.7 billion.

Uber reported US$11.5 billion in revenue over the first quarter of 2026, an increase of 14% over the same period a year ago, with both mobility and deliveries showing growth.

The agreement follows a trend of consolidation sweeping the online food delivery space, as companies are looking for bigger regional networks following several years of competitive pressure.

The global online food delivery market has been valued at US$380.4 billion in 2025 by Grand View Research, which showcased its continued growth in both developed and emerging markets through apps.

Delivery Hero is reportedly planning to sell its Turkish arm Yemeksepeti and certain European assets before the transaction is finalized to comply with anti-competitive concerns.

The combination of the two would still need regulatory clearance, especially in Europe, where both companies have food delivery apps in the market.
