Apple will begin manufacturing some of its Mac Mini desktop computers in Houston, Texas, in 2026, shifting part of its production from Asia to the United States.
The development was first report by The Wall Street Journal.
The Mac Mini will be manufactured in a Foxconn plant in Houston, which has been working with Apple for a long time. The Texas location will concentrate on the devices to be sold in the U.S. market, though facilities abroad will still cater to other markets.
Expanding U.S. Manufacturing Footprint
Apple has previously assembled some of its products in Texas, such as the Mac Pro. Its hardware, however, iPads, Mac computers, and iPhones are mainly manufactured in Asia by contractors.
The planned production in Houston is part of the overall Apple supply chain changes over the recent years. The company has not just concentrated on manufacturing in China, but has also enhanced its operations in other countries like India and Vietnam. The production of Mac Minis in Texas is another move towards that strategy.
Apple did not reveal the volume of production, investment amount, or the number of jobs associated with the Houston expansion.
Financial Context and Mac Business Performance
According to the latest annual filing, the latest fiscal year of 2025, Apple recorded a net income of about 97 billion dollars and a revenue of about 383 billion dollars. The Mac division earned the firm about 29 billion dollars in revenue in the year, which is a smaller percentage of the iPhone and services segment.
According to industry statistics provided by IDC, the world PC shipments reached over 250 million units in 2024, a slow but steady recovery following previous downfalls. Apple is still one of the major PC sellers across the world as it competes against the likes of Lenovo, HP Inc., and Dell Technologies.
Supply Chain and Industry Backdrop
The U.S. has a smaller percentage of world electronics manufacturing capacity, with most of the world’s assembly of semiconductors and devices being based in Asia. The move by Apple to relocate a section of its Mac mini production to Houston is a response to the fact that technology firms are re-evaluating supply chains in response to changes in trade policies and geopolitical conflicts.
The company has made no public statements in more detail defining the timelines of production after 2026.
