Ventia Services Taps Internal Executive Mark Ralston as CEO
The infrastructure services company has selected internal executive Mark Ralston to succeed Dean Banks as chief executive, highlighting the strength of its leadership pipeline after an extensive succession process.
Mark Ralston, a long-serving member of Ventia, has been appointed by the company to its senior executive team as chief executive officer, as the company prepares to enter new phases of growth and operation.
Ralston, who has been part of the succession process for the group since it began, was appointed Managing Director and Group Chief Executive Officer from 1 September 2026, following an internal/ external evaluation process for succession.
The selection will retain leadership in the company and demonstrates confidence in the existing management team.
This isn't the first time Ralston has been in the business. For the past 12 years, he has served executive responsibilities within Ventia ranging from corporate strategy to mergers and acquisitions to telecommunications and infrastructure services.
He most recently served as the company's Defence and Social Infrastructure division, which was its largest operating segment and was a key revenue contributor.
Internal appointment signals continuity
Instead of looking for an external recruit, Ventia's board chose one who was already well known to them, across all aspects of the company, customer base and key markets. Chairman David Moffatt said Ralston's experience in the various business units makes him an ideal fit to lead the firm to its future.
The appointment follows Banks' five-year tenure and marks the culmination of his efforts to build presence and drive momentum across the infrastructure sector. Banks will continue to play a role until September and will be on hand to assist in orderly transfer of duties.
Infrastructure Footprint Remains Central
Based in North Sydney, Ventia is an asset management, facilities management, engineering, telecommunications, environmental and maintenance services provider to government and private-sector organisations.
The business was founded in 2015 through the merger of Leighton Contractors Services, Thiess Services and Visionstream.
Today, Ventia works in such industries as defence, transport, telecommunications, energy, resources and social infrastructure. The company has over 35,000 employees in over 400 locations across Australia and New Zealand.
Ralston said that he was privileged to accept the position and would work to expand on the company's current strategy. Investors will closely watch the integration and customer delivery as the transformation continues over the next few months, especially within the country's long-term infrastructure and public-sector contracts, which support the company's revenue profile.
