Synopsis

Bitcoin treasury firms have seen combined market value fall sharply from $134 billion to $72 billion, erasing $62 billion. The decline follows heavy Bitcoin ETF outflows, reduced liquidity, and shifting investor capital toward AI and technology IPOs across US, Canadian, and European markets.

In a change to the Australian public investment landscape, the Macquarie Group chairman and former Reserve Bank of Australia governor Glenn Stevens will take on the role of chairman of NSW government investment and financing agency NSW Treasury Corporation (TCorp).

As well as in global markets. Publicly trading companies which holds significant amounts of bitcoin on their balance sheets dropped from nearly $134bn to roughly $72bn in value according to Bloomberg and Yahoo Finance, effectively shedding $62bn.

The downturn reflects a broader collapse in digital assets where hundreds of billions dollars in value has been vaporised through ongoing sell-off and significant scale liquidations.

Bitcoin treasury companies – the most of which are located in the U.S and second in Canada and parts of Europe – are closely linked to price of bitcoin and investor's appetite for risk assets.

Key reason for downturn continues to be ongoing outflow of funds from U.S. Spot Bitcoin ETFs, with billions in fiunds being pulled from ETFs which consequently contributed to reduction in liquidity across the crypto-sphere, amplifying volatility in both token and equity prices.

Reduced liquidity levels also have resulted in heightened correlation of crypto stocks to institutional fiund demand.

Also, continuedflows to artificial intelligence infrastructure and top technology IPOs in U.S equity markets among others, contributed to change of market leadership from riskier crypto assets and companies whose share prices surged during the early cycles of the crypto market.

Some bitcoin treasury companies have been reflexing the Bitcoin on their balance sheets, leading to more pressure on the upside, as positions were reversed. ETF outflows combined with reduced liquidity and lack of institutional investor appetite and allocation shifts, contributed to the sell-off.
