Washington Grants Limited Access Approval for Claude Mythos 5

Shivangi June 27, 2026
Synopsis

The approval comes two weeks after the government ordered Anthropic to suspend access to some advanced AI models amid fears they could be exploited by military or intelligence actors in rival nations.

Key Highlights

  • Anthropic’s Claude Mythos 5 has been launched to “trusted partners” in the U.S.
  • The AI model will be made accessible to over 100 companies and institutions.
  • Companies that aren’t on the list will still have restrictions.

The U.S. government has permitted Anthropic to launch its Claude Mythos 5 AI model to certain trusted partners. The move comes after the government ordered Anthropic to halt access to some of its AI models last month on worries they could be accessed by military intelligence organisations from China, Russia or other areas flagged as threats.

Access Approved for Trusted Partners

Claude Mythos 5 will now be available to over 100 companies and institutions, including multiple Fortune 500 companies among them. Anthropic had been working with the government since the June 12 executive order about controls to mitigate security risks. And the efforts yielded progress, said U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick.

The new changes means the trusted companies, their foreign national employees and Anthropic’s own foreign national employees no longer require an export licence for Claude Mythos. This allows restrictions to remain in place for organisations who are not among those approved.

Fable 5 Still Under Review

The commerce department said that they worked in just two weeks to make sure America remains the global reader in AI safeguarding security.

The letter made no mention of Anthropic’s Fable 5 model. The government is moving towards allowing its release but has not set a timeline. Anthropic’s relationship, American government has not been a smooth one. The company refused to allow the US military to use AI models for surveillance and systems and the community by blacklisting the company.
