Synopsis

Airtasker has launched an end-to-end ChatGPT integration, enabling users to book local services directly within an AI conversation as demand from AI-referred customers continues to rise.

Australian online marketplace Airtasker has launched a new integration with ChatGPT, allowing users to post, browse and book local services without leaving a single AI conversation. The company says it is the first local services marketplace to offer an end-to-end booking experience within ChatGPT.

Airtasker enables users to describe a task, receive budget suggestions, find a suitable Tasker and confirm the booking in one chat.

The launch comes as Airtasker's internal data shows AI-referred users are significantly more engaged than traditional visitors.

According to Airtasker, visitors arriving from AI assistants are more than five times as likely to sign up, post jobs at nearly twice the rate of other users and create tasks worth around 20% more than the marketplace average.

Airtasker’s move reflects the growing shift towards AI-powered commerce where chatbots not only answer questions but also complete transactions.

Chapter one

AI Moves from Recommendations to Completed Bookings

Unlike many AI integrations that redirect users to external websites, Airtasker's ChatGPT integration keeps the entire booking journey within the conversation. Users can explain what they need in natural language while ChatGPT helps generate the task description, recommend a budget, identify suitable Taskers and complete the entire booking process.

CEO Tim Fung said the integration bridges the gap between AI providing information and actually helping customers complete real-world tasks such as gardening, furniture assembly, cleaning, removals and car servicing.

The technology is powered by Airtasker's Remote MCP server, allowing the platform to connect with AI agents beyond ChatGPT as more marketplaces open to third-party integrations.

Chapter two

AI Referrals Drive Stronger Customer Engagement

Airtasker said tasks posted by users arriving through AI assistants have increased more than eightfold since late 2024. Around two-thirds of those jobs involve hands-on local services, including trades, removals, cleaning and handyman work.

The company also noted that Sydney and Melbourne together account for around half of Australia's AI-referred tasks, followed by Brisbane and Perth. The broader AI market continues to expand rapidly.

According to Roy Morgan, 13.6 million Australians aged 14 and above used AI tools during an average four-week period in the March quarter of 2026. ChatGPT remained the country's most widely used AI platform, attracting 10.5 million users or 45% of Australians aged 14 and over.

To promote the launch, Airtasker is offering A$50 off eligible bookings of A$200 or more made through its ChatGPT connector until 13 September 2026.
