Queensland Warned for More Storms After Destruction

Hot weather and heavy storms will continue to pound eastern Australia. New South Wales and Queensland will face major storm. The huge storm yesterday hit people in the southeast of Queensland. Now they could get another one, said Jonathan How from the Bureau of Meteorology. Heavy rain, hail, and strong winds are all coming to the area. The Gold Coast up to Wide Bay will see the worst.

Hot Weather Lasts Until the weekend

The hot weather will last through the weekend, too. Warnings are out. How said high temperatures on the Queensland coast will be 10 degrees above normal today. They will be in the low to mid-30s. Further west, it will go over 40 degrees.

Yesterday, Windorah in central Queensland reached 46 degrees. Winton and Longreach were almost as hot at 45 degrees. How said the nights will also remain hot right through to the weekend, which will make people uncomfortable. The hot spell will last through the week, with high temperatures in the mid-30s.

Big Storms Might Hit Most of NSW

Storms are possible over most of NSW today. Large storms may develop from Sydney north to the Northern Rivers. The most severe storms are likely to develop over the state’s northeast. Tropical Cyclone Fina reached the Kimberleys coast late last night. It was a bad Category 3 storm. It has hit a fairly remote part of the country. But a cyclone warning is still out for the area. People in the far north of Western Australia have been told to get inside right away. Bad Tropical Cyclone Fina is getting closer to hitting land.

Cyclone Has Strong Winds and Lots of Rain

Winds of up to 165 kilometres per hour have been recorded. Heavy to very heavy rain has fallen with some flooding, How said. The storm will continue to weaken as it moves inland. How said it would most likely drop back to a tropical low by late afternoon or early evening. But showers and storms will occur across the Top End and the Kimberley areas until the weekend.

The wild weather has already broken lots of things. Thousands of people are waiting for power to come back after the huge storm. Trees fell on power lines. Roofs got torn off houses. Quick flooding happened in many spots. Emergency workers have been busy helping people and cleaning up.

People Told to Be Careful

People in hit areas are being told to be careful. They should not go outside when storms hit. If they must go out, they should look for fallen trees and power lines. Quick flooding can happen fast, so people should not drive through water. They should also make sure they have emergency supplies ready. That means water, food, torches, and batteries.

The hot weather makes things harder. People need to drink lots of water and stay cool. They should check on old neighbours and people who live alone. Pets also need extra care when it is hot. Having both heat and storms is bad. When things are dry, lightning can start fires. People should have a fire plan ready.

Weather watchers will continue to monitor what is happening. Updates will be provided when the situation changes. People should listen to local radio and check the Bureau of Meteorology website for updates. Also, do what the emergency services tell them to do.
