Anthropic Valuation Passed OpenAI
Anthropic completed a series H $65 billion funding round valuing the company at $965 billion post money. Anthropic’s $965 billion valuation surpasses OpenAI 2026, which was valued at $852 billion in March. This has fueled the ongoing rivalry between the both companies.
That values Anthropic at just over double its $380 billion valuation earlier in February. Adoption of its Claude chatbot and enterprise AI products remained positive, with annualised revenue exceeding $47 billion earlier this month, the company said
How it intends to utilise the funding, and why it is important
The funding round will allow “Anthropic to scale capacity and development of product in alignment with the accelerating deployment of AI services around the world," the company said. The company has been pushed reasonably hard to keep up with user demand in recent months and put usage limits in place during peak periods whilst incentivising off-peak usage with extra computing access.
Investors in the funding round included Altimeter, Capital, Dragoneer, Greenoaks, and Sequoia Capital, with Coatue and ICONIQ serving as the co-leads. Other strategic infrastructure including Micron, Samsung and SK Hynix also participated
As part of its efforts to expand infrastructure, Anthropic also announced that it would deploy Cloud Mythos in the coming weeks. The company also launched Claude Opus 4.8 at the global scale of AI products and enterprise services.
Anthropic & OpenAI inch toward potential IPOs
Anthropic’s new funding announcement arrives as both Anthropic and OpenAI are preparing for a potential IPO, possibly within the remainder of this year. The companies are pursuing hefty funding rounds for computing resources needed to train future AI models.
Part of the round also includes previously committed funding from hyperscalers, including $15 billion in total, $5 billion of it by Amazon. In April, Amazon announced it could spend another $25 billion alongside Anthropic, which planned to invest over $100 billion during the next 10 years on Amazon cloud tech beyond an earlier investment by Amazon of $8 billion at that time.
