Synopsis

The company will pay $6.15 million to acquire the outstanding joint venture interest, giving it complete control of the US-based project.

IGO has purchased the other 50 percent interest in IGO Copper Wolf LLC’s Copper Wolf project located in the state of Arizona in the USA, for A$6.15 million cash consideration.

This acquisition concludes the partnership between IGO and Buxton Resources, with IGO having 100 per cent of the project’s core exploration area, simplifying future exploration and development decisions for the asset.

The acquisition includes IGO Copper Wolf LLC’s acquisition of a total 30.5 square kilometres of exploration ground from Buxton Resources.

Buxton Resources’ interests consist of the Bobcat and Rattler prospects, plus around 30.5 square kilometres of exploration acreage, encompassing the Wolverine, Sun Devil and Aztecs prospects.

Chapter one

Arizona Project Returns to Single Ownership

It is situated within one of the most famous copper mineralised systems in the world, the Arizona porphyry copper belt. Copper Wolf has a history dating back many years with active ongoing exploration work, the most advanced target being Bobcat, an intercept of 405m at 0.35% copper (Cu) and 0.05% molybdenum (Mo) achieved at Bobcat Drilling Campaign during 2023.

This includes shallow supergene copper mineralisation which is at present developed at the Rattler prospect, one of the earliest identified prospects on the property.

“Further drilling will begin in the first half of 2027 to provide more data for our technical studies to assist in identifying our priority areas for further exploration”, said Mr Mattias Larsson, Head of Exploration at IGO in a statement.

Chapter two

Copper Market Keeps Exploration Activity in Focus

The demand for exploration work has gained a more central focus due to the current copper price. The current demand for copper in construction projects, electricity transmission, renewable energy installations and electric vehicles is high.

According to the IEA’s Global Critical Minerals Outlook 2025, the global copper demand will grow from 26.7 million tonnes in 2024 to circa 31.3 million tonnes by 2030, according to the IEA’s Stated Policies Scenario.

Chile, Peru and the Democratic Republic of the Congo are considered to be among the largest copper-producing countries in the world and so is also the US. The US is an important source of copper worldwide; the US Geological Survey (USGS) estimates that more than two-thirds of the total copper mined in the US originate from Arizona.

Chapter three

Portfolio Expansion Adds US Copper Exposure

IGO Expands International Portfolio to Add US Exposure Copper Wolf acquisition enhances the international exploration portfolio of IGO in parallel with its exploration programme throughout Australia.

FY25 revenue was A$528 million, falling from A$841 million from the prior year, and with cash and equivalents in the amount of A$468 million at year end.

IGO would then be responsible for the exploration at the project as well as managing the subsequent drill campaign once the ownership transaction had been finalized.
