Disney's live-action version of Lilo and Stitch has become a major global hit around the world, officially passing the $1 billion mark at the box office. After just eight weeks in theatres, the film has earned $416.2 million in the US and $584.8 million around the world. It’s the first Hollywood film of 2025 to reach this milestone and continues its strong run at the box office this year.
The story of a Hawaiian girl and her blue alien friend clearly connected with long-time fans of the 2002 animated movie and a new generation of viewers. With its mixture of heart, humour and visuals, Lilo and Stitch has struck a chord among countries and cultures.
Lilo & Stitch Breaks Records
Lilo and Stitch got an incredible start. It made $183 million over the four-day holiday, beating the previous record held by Top Gun: Maverick. In just three days, it brought in $145.5 million in America, making it the third largest opening for a Disney live-action remake behind The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast.
The film doesn’t shine on its own; its success pushed total box office sales for the Memorial Day weekend to nearly $327 million, which is the highest ever for the holiday. On Memorial Day Monday alone, the movie earned $37 million, becoming the fourth-highest-grossing Monday in US box office history.
Disney’s Box Office Stream Continues
This billion-dollar success marks Disney's fourth in 2025, following Inside Out 2, Moana 2, Deadpool, and Wolverine. With 15 animated movies now in the billion-dollar club, Disney remains unmatched in producing hit films. Over the years, Disney has turned franchises into global events. From Frozen to Pirates of the Caribbean, the studio has more billion-dollar titles than any other, making it a box of leader.
