Israel Announces Strike on Iran and Expects Retaliation

Israel announced surprise attacks on Iran early Friday morning and is now preparing for counterattacks. The Israeli government has declared a state of emergency across the entire country.
Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz announced the strikes and warned Iran that it will likely fire missiles and drones back at Israel very soon. People in Israel have been told to stay safe in their areas and follow emergency protocols.
What Happened This Morning
Explosions were heard in and around Tehran, Iran’s capital city, in the early morning hours. Israeli officials say they targeted Iran’s nuclear program and military sites with dozens of strikes across different parts of the country.
The attacks focused on Iran’s long-range missiles and facilities connected to its nuclear programs. An Israeli military official also confirmed that multiple areas were hit during the operation. Tehran’s main international airport has been shut down and all flights have been cancelled following the strikes. The airport is situated about 30 km from the capital city.
Emergency Measures in Israel
Israel has changed its emergency guidelines from “Full Activity” to “Essential Activity” starting at 3:00 am local time. This means schools were closed, gatherings were banned, and only essential workers would go to work.
Air raid sirens went off in Jerusalem around 3:00 am, followed by phone alerts warning of possible attacks. Israeli officials expect Iran to respond with missile and drone strikes against Israeli cities and civilians.
US Position on the Conflict
President Trump said earlier that he does not want Israel to strike Iran while negotiations might still be possible. He warned that attacks could ruin chances for a peaceful agreement.
“As long as I think there will be an agreement. I don’t want them going in,” Trump told reporters. He also said that he would “love to avoid a conflict” but believed Iran needs to be willing to compromise on certain issues.
US officials knew since Wednesday that Israel was ready to launch this operation. American citizens in the regions were advised to leave, and the US expects Iran might target American sites in Iraq as part of their response.
The situation remains very tense and serious as both countries prepare for what could become a bigger conflict in the Middle East.
