The Plan
Chipotle is not just hopeful of being successful with one location but plans a greater expansion in the region. They will partner with Mexican company Alsea. Alsea CEO Armando Torrado was quoted as saying “We are proud to work with an iconic brand like Chipotle and help grow its international business for years to come,”
Taco Bell’s inability to gain a footing in Mexico was believed to be due to pricing issues and a perceived lack of authenticity, including menu items that didn’t translate especially well.
In order to win the loyalty of discerning Mexican diners, renowned L.A. chef and author George Geary believes Chipotle will need to insure the highest quality “Simply bringing its U.S. concept to Mexico won’t be enough. Chipotle must adapt by using deeper marinades, bolder spices, and embracing traditional slow-cooking methods to succeed. “If it limits itself to tourist-heavy resort areas, it will attract only travelers seeking the comfort of familiar American fast food.
The first Chipotle in Mexico is will open in 2026. Although there has been no announcement on where the first location will be. Can Chipotle succeed in Mexico?
