C.J. Stroud’s Historic Performance Leads Texans to Victory Over Browns

In a dominating performance, the Houston Texans marched past the Cleveland Browns in their wild-card matchup with a score of 45-14. The game marked a historic day for Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud who tied the NFL record for most touchdown passes thrown by a rookie in a playoff game. This impressive feat earned him high praise from Texans coach DeMeco Ryans, who called Stroud “special” and credited him for the team’s success.

Stroud’s historic performance wasn’t the only highlight of the game. The Texans’ defense, led by cornerback Steven Nelson and linebacker Christian Harris, played a crucial role in securing the victory. Both Nelson and Harris returned interceptions for touchdowns, sealing the victory for the Texans.

The win was particularly sweet for the Texans, who had suffered a loss to the Browns during Week 16. This previous defeat served as motivation for the playoff rematch, and the Texans retaliated with a 35-0 run after trailing 14-10 in the second quarter.

Despite the Browns’ best efforts, they couldn’t contain the Texans’ offense. Stroud threw for 274 yards and three touchdowns, earning him the title of the youngest quarterback to win a playoff game and the highest-drafted rookie QB to win in the postseason.

Cornerback Derek Stingley also made a significant contribution by limiting Browns wide receiver Amari Cooper to four catches. He matched up with Cooper on 71% of routes and held him to zero catches.

With this victory, the Texans have advanced to the AFC Divisional Round, marking their first return to the playoffs since 2019. The leadership of Ryans and the stellar play of Stroud have transformed the Texans from an NFL laughingstock to AFC South champions. As the Texans prepare for their next matchup, they remain confident in their ability to succeed as long as Stroud continues his historic performance.
