Victoria Fire Reaches Emergency Levels
A fast-moving grassfire in south-west Victoria that has reached emergency level is forcing residents in some rural towns to shelter immediately. “If you are not prepared, if we gave you a warning now it is too late… this fire is jumping from tree top to tree top,” he said as the fire at Carlisle River and Gellibrand heads south towards homes. As a significant change of direction in the wind was forecast to move the fire’s front, emergency services have warned all residents in the area should seek shelter, stay inside and protect themselves from the heat and smoke.
