US Senate Green-Lights Funding Bill, Signals End To Historic Shutdown
The US Senate has approved a cross-party funding bill intended to bring an end to the nation’s record 41-day government shutdown. The measure, which passed in a 60–40 vote, will keep the federal government funded through January 30, 2026, and guarantee back pay for the hundreds of thousands of employees who were furloughed or forced to work without pay. While the bill covers funding for several major government programs, such as food support and military construction projects, it leaves unresolved the dispute over healthcare subsidies that are set to expire, pushing that decision to a separate vote in December. The bill now goes to the House of Representatives, where it will face a final vote.
